How can we spread the word more effectively?
I have a proposition to make. We have some very generous alliance members, but I think we need more people advertising the blogathon. To remedy this, I would like to reopen membership of the alliance in exchange for a post advertising the blogathon. This has been the most effective tactic I have found for generating interest. It will also allow people who were too late to join, but who decided to host the blogroll anyway, to finally get a reciprocal link on the roll.
The more the merrier. If you have any thoughts on this, please leave a comment. If there are no dissenting opinions by the end of the weekend, I will go ahead and do it.

Yes, that's probably a good idea -although what about people who feel very strongly against torture, and want to express solidarity by joining the 'roll and advertising the Blogathon effort, but don't actually know enough about torture to do a proper post on it?
If we do make it a requirement to post about torture within a week, then you're right - it should definitely be accompanied by the 'one a month' thing.
So, in general, good idea!
Oh OK then, good - my sole reservation has disappeared.
Okay, thanks for your input both. I think I'll go ahead with it, including Mash's suggestion about recommending monthly torture posts.
I have tried to contact Amnesty USA, informing them of what we are doing and asking them if it were possible to have someone online sometimes during the Blogathon to allow for a short e-mail interview. That would make a great post.
They haven't replied, but at the time, we had only raised $10 so I'll try again tomorrow. If any of you think they can have more luck, go for it! But remember that the interview would have to take place during the Blogathon, to adhere to the 'no pre-posting' rule.
